Max is putting a lot of promotion into this new series, which stars Kate Winslet as Elena Vernham, the chancellor of a restrictive nation that is finding its power starting to crumble. In The Regime, Elena slowly loses her grip on both power and sanity as she entrusts her decisions to an unstable soldier who wins her confidence. This looks like the kind of high-budget, high-drama stuff HBO has excelled at for decades.A Revolution On Canvas (Mar. 5)
New HBO documentary A Revolution on Canvas looks incredibly compelling. Iranian artist Nickzad Nodjoumi left the comfort of New York City to return to his native land during the revolution, creating paintings that satirized the Shah. But in 1980 he found the new Islamic regime wasn’t quite the patron of the arts he thought they might be, and he had to flee the country. In the film, his daughter Sara tries to track down the missing paintings and understand this turbulent time for her family and the world.Dream Scenario (Mar. 15)
Nicolas Cage stars in this new A24 joint from director Kristoffer Borgli, whose 2022 Sick Of Myself was a vicious black comedy about two people upstaging each other with false medical symptoms. In Dream Scenario, Cage plays Paul Matthews, an ordinary biology professor who becomes a worldwide celebrity after he starts appearing in the dreams of other people.
