Amazon products share a few common design philosophies, usually offering stable if not cutting-edge performance at a reasonable price. During the six-day Big Spring Sale, we’re seeing big discounts on them, and here are a few of the best.
Amazon’s Echo line of smart speakers have been steadily decreasing in size while maintaining sound quality and processing power, and the 5th generation Echo Dot hits a great balance between price and performance. In our review, we praised its ease of use and well-balanced sound, as well as the addition of tap gestures for easier voice-free control. If you haven’t used an Echo, they’re powered by Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, which can answer questions, run timers, connect to streaming services and more. This is a nice $15 price drop.

Amazon’s Fire tablets started out as budget devices with modest capabilities, but the company has been steadily juicing them up in recent years, and the new Fire Max 11 is definitely competitive. With a huge 11″ screen that delivers 2,000-by-1,200-pixel resolution and 213ppi pixel density, it’s killer for watching movies and TV shows, as well as reading documents. The build quality is simple and sturdy, and battery life is solid, lasting over seven hours in our tests. In our review, we praised the large, vibrant display and capable processor, saying “you’ll have a hard time finding a better value for the price.” Being able to take an additional $80 off makes this a hard-to-resist deal.
With Prime Video a major part of their business plans, it’s not surprising that Amazon would eventually step into TVs. Their Fire TV lineup is composed of solid offerings, and we reviewed the 65″ version of the Omni when it came out, saying that it was “packed with all the powerful features of Fire TV, including hands-free Alexa voice control, making it a compelling option for a new smart TV that won’t break the bank.” 4K Ultra HD with HDR 10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Plus support means your movies and shows will look great, and Amazon is constantly updating the OS to add new features.
Many of Amazon’s Blink security cameras and doorbells are on sale right now, but the most attractive discount of the batch is a whopping 40% off the sturdy and powerful Blink Outdoor 4 floodlight camera. Equipped with a 700-lumen spotlight that’s entirely battery powered, it transmits 1080p HD live video day or night with infrared night vision. An included microphone and speaker lets you use two-way audio to converse with intruders, and motion detection sends live alarms to your connected devices. We reviewed the base camera and called it “a smart choice for Alexa-automated smart homes.”
