Godox has announced its newest LED light, the Godox ML100Bi ($199). This compact light looks a lot more like some of Zhiyun’s recent releases than past Godox LED lights, but is this the new trend in LED lighting?
LED lights have kind of hit a wall in the more traditional monoblock style design. New technology, however, has allowed us to overcome those large and clunky form factors. We may find that these compact LED lights will become far more prevalent over the next couple of years.
Godox ML100Bi – Godox’s entry into compact COB LED lighting
The new Godox ML100Bi enters an ever-growing market of compact LED lights that are putting out far more power than one would expect. Weighing only 487g, the ML100Bi offers a bicolour white range from 2800-6500K with up to 120W of output.
It offers full brightness adjustment from zero to 100%, with controls on the light itself or remotely using the Godox Light app. It has a CRI of 97 and a TLCI of 98, with a Godox mount on the front for your modifiers. Of course, there’s also a Bowens mount adapter.
This is the first compact, powerful COB LED light that Godox has produced, and I expect it won’t be the last. It’s very similar in appearance to the Zhiyun Molus G200 ($379), but it’s obviously not a straight-up copy, as the two lights share different outputs.
It’s powered by either an AC adapter providing a DC power output, a 14.8v V-Mount battery, or a USB power bank. It’s nice to see more small, powerful lights being announced. And more lights running off USB-C.
I expect we’ll see quite a few more of them as LED and power technology continues to evolve.
