Inside My Camera Bag | Valter Antunes

I’m Valter, a wedding photographer based in Portugal who has been shooting weddings for twelve years.
So, long story short… I bought a camera, a Canon EOS 550D, to get some shots of my son, who was about to be born, and because I spent so much money on that camera, I decided to become a photographer 🙂
I started shooting with Canon cameras, and after I had my Canon EOS 4D Mark IV, I wanted to switch to mirrorless, so I switched to Sony. For no valid reason… I don’t really think the brand is important!
Right now, I’m shooting Sony, but I could change again to some other brand in the future… maybe even an iPhone 🙂
I don´t use much gear, and ninety-eight percent of weddings are shot with just one camera and a 35mm lens.
Sony A7R III – This is my main camera, and I have two. I chose this camera because it was the most recommended camera when I switched to mirrorless. I love the auto-focus system and will probably upgrade to the Sony A7 RV in 2025.
Sony A7 III – is my backup camera which is still very good.
Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 – This is my main lens, and I have two. I shoot almost all day with this lens as it is my favorite focal length.
Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 – I use this one for portraits sometimes.
Tamron 16-35mm f/2.8 – I have this lens just in case I’m in a very tight space. I rarely use it!
Yongnuo YN685 Speedlite x 2 – I shoot mostly in natural light, but I have these flashes to use mainly on the dance floor.
Yongnuo YN560-TX Trigger – an inexpensive way to sync with the lights.
Godox V1 Speedlite – I just ordered this flash while writing this text:)
Ulanzi VL49 – compact RGB lights that I use for creative shots where I need extra colors or just to be in my pocket in an emergency.
Sardine Leather Straps – good build quality on these, highly recommended!
My main machine post-shoot is a Mac Studio M2 Max (30-core GPU, 64bg, 1tb SSD) with a Dell U2723QE Monitor, plus I have a 27″Apple iMac.
I use my own presets for editing, which have evolved over the years. I edit on Adobe’s Lightroom and rarely open Photoshop unless it’s really needed.
I also carry some glass prisms and anything that can be used to add some cool effects to photos.
I focus a lot more on the art of capturing nice moments than being worried about gear. I don’t want to think about what gear to use, so I shoot almost all day with a 35mm lens on my camera.
I don’t really care which camera has the best colors if we’re going to change all the colors in Adobe’s Lightroom.
It’s good to have nice gear, but the nice gear is not going to help you make better photos 😉
When a new camera model is released, I only buy it three years later!
