Learn Tech Today, Lead Tomorrow.SpaceX has just introduced the Starlink Mini, a compact version of its well-known satellite internet system. This device, priced at $599, can easily slip into a backpack to bring high-speed internet wherever you go.
Early Starlink customers got a special invite to purchase the Starlink Mini kit, priced at $100 more than the standard version. They were also offered a capped 50 gigabytes add-on Mini Roam service which costs an extra $30 per month on top of the $120 residential plan.
SpaceX intends to gradually reduce the cost, particularly in places where internet connectivity is expensive or unavailable.
This setup is perfect for those who need reliable internet access on the go across the United States.
The Starlink Mini antenna is quite the engineering marvel. It is 60% lighter than the typical Starlink dish, weighing roughly 2.5 pounds with the kickstand included.
The size is comparable to a laptop, measuring 12 inches x 10 inches x1.5 inches. Despite its compact size, it offers impressive download speeds of over 100 Mbps and includes a built-in WiFi router that uses less power than the larger versions. This makes it ideal not just for travelers and remote workers but also as a handy backup internet option for homes.
Starlink’s extensive satellite network with over 6,000 satellites, currently serves more than 3 million customers in 100 countries. The launch of the Starlink Mini is set to expand this reach even further.
Michael Nicolls, SpaceX’s Vice President of Starlink Engineering, mentioned that production is ramping up and the Mini will soon be available internationally.
Elon Musk pointed out that setting up the Starlink Mini is a breeze —less than five minutes, and that this product will change the world.
