Artlist can now create AI Voiceovers so you don’t have to

Recording voiceovers can be quite intimidating. A lot of people don’t like hearing their own voice to begin with, and that’s before you’ve even spent money on microphones, audio interfaces and software, let alone learned how to use it. But it’s just got a whole lot easier.

Stock music licensing company Artlist has released a new AI Voiceover tool for creators. This means you don’t have to record it yourself. Just come up with your script, feed it into the software and tell it what kind of voice you’d like. Job done.

Artlist AI Voiceover

I’ve always recorded my own voiceovers. Microphones and their associated hardware are a lot of fun for me, and I have a lot of it. But recording your own voiceovers isn’t always easy, even if you have all the gear. Maybe your neighbour decided to mow the lawn for three hours, or there’s a party going on next door, and you just need to get something out.

Or maybe you don’t have the gear or the confidence to talk confidently to camera. That’s where AI Voiceovers step in. Now, you can write what you want it to say and have it say it. You can tweak your voice settings to make sure it sounds exactly how you like and then generate it.

It’s not your voice, though

The above video shows how easy it is to do. There’s no worrying about audio clipping, compression, EQ, etc. Just perfect audio files straight into your folder. Of course, it’s not going to be your own voice. That isn’t a feature Artlist offers (yet?).

The ability to upload a sample of one’s own voice and have the AI create voiceovers using my own voice would be a fantastic feature. But even with generic voices like these, I can think of a lot of use cases here that might make some traditional voiceover artists struggle a little.

At least until every video sounds the same. Part of me hopes that Artlist will evolve add new voices as certain ones become popular, overplayed memes. But part of me also hopes they don’t, to give real voiceover artists more of a chance to find work. Also, there would be a lot of potential liability if Artlist eventually offered this feature.

Either way, it’s a very impressive piece of tech with quite natural-sounding voices. I can see this becoming quite popular, if there’s enough variety in the voices.

Price and Availability

Artlist AI Voiceovers are available from $11.99/mo. This includes 50,000 credits, which Artlist says covers about an hour of voiceover, per month. It’s not clear whether these credits roll over or reset at the beginning of each billing cycle. DIYP has reached out to Artlist to confirm and we’ll update this post when we hear back, but I suspect they reset each month.

Update: Artlist has responded to DIYP and confirmed that the 50,000 credits reset each month and do not accumulate.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
