2024 has introduced many new OLED TVs, so now’s a great time to compare LG C4 vs Samsung S95D, two new entries this year. We already know that the LG C4 slots right in as a mid-range pick, while the Samsung S95D, just like its predecessors, is a more premium option and the new flagship 4K. Despite their differences, they will definitely be among the best OLED TVs right now.
The C4 uses an OLED evo panel, and the S95D comes with QD-OLED panel technology. Both feature a lot of improvements over their predecessors in terms of brightness, colors, and overall sharpness, but the QD-OLED S95D can perform better than the OLED evo C4 due to Quantum Dot tech and its new anti-glare technology.
Of course, both are gaming TVs as they are filled with performance features, but we will compare them across the board to find out which ones come on top.

LG’s biggest improvement with the C4 is their new and improved Alpha 9 AI processor paired with the updated webOS, resulting in a much more responsive navigation. Samsung has the spotlight with its new anti-glare technology, giving the S95D an exceptionally brilliant panel.
This matte finish means you can use the S95D in a well-lit room and have no worries about annoying reflections, but it can also make the colors look dull. To counter this, the peak brightness of the S95D is very good. It is one of the brightest panels as far as OLEDs go. That’s why the S95D has managed to retain its remarkable picture quality while also introducing a glare-free viewing experience, even if you do lose the glossy look many people love.
Samsung had already been using a max 144Hz refresh rate with their last-gen S95C, but it’s good to see that LG has also come up the ladder by upgrading from a max 120Hz refresh rate to 144Hz.
Like in the past, Samsung has again decided to stick with the HDR10+, whereas the LG C4 boasts excellent HDR performance with Dolby Vision. This means if you’re into HDR content, the S95D is not as good as the C4. The C4 gets another point for having a wider size range, as it starts from 42” and goes all the way up to 83”, while the S95D only comes in three sizes – a limitation of QD-OLED at the moment.
In terms of sound, the C4 brings AI to the table and uses its Alpha 9 chip to up-mix 2-channel audio into virtual 7.1.2-channel, but the S95D is still a winner as its object tracking is top-notch and the overall sound quality is expected to be punchier based on last year’s models.
In short, the C4 has more sizes available and a better HDR, but the S95D has a non-reflective panel with improved sound.

As expected, the LG C4 is more affordable than the Samsung S95D across all sizes. In fact, the price difference only grows as we move up the sizes. For instance, the 55” S95D is expected to be $500 more expensive, the 65” variant $600 more expensive, and the biggest 77” S95D a whopping $800 more than the 77” C4.
This makes the C4 a better value-for-money offering than the S95D, but it makes sense as the C-series has always been a mid-range option, and the S95D is meant to give a high-end experience with more premium features (and a premium price tag).
LG C4 vs Samsung S95D for gaming
Both the LG C4 and the Samsung S95D are excellent options for gaming. They use the latest HDMI 2.1 interface to offer 4K gaming at a 144Hz refresh rate. Of course, you can only get the peak 144Hz on PC, as it is limited to 120Hz for consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Being OLED panels, you get both low response times and low input lag from the two TVs. They also support AMD FreeSync and compatibility with NVIDIA G-Sync for a variable refresh rate to eliminate any screen tears or stuttering.
The QD-OLED technology used in the S95D is known for its wide-viewing angles, which is a plus as you can hang out with your friends around the room, and everyone can check out the gameplay. Plus, the glare-free coating means you won’t get reflections in games set in dark or night environments. The C4 of course has a wide viewing angle of its own, but a more glossy finish.
While both are good to go for console gaming, PC gamers may lean towards the C4 as the 42” size is a much better option for PC gaming than the S95D’s smallest 55”.

Is the Samsung S95D brighter than the LG C4?
While we still have to wait for some hands-on testing to confirm this, the S95D will likely be brighter than the LG C4. This is because of the QD-OLED panel technology that helps boost brightness levels by throwing Quantum Dot technology (found in bright QLED panels) into the mix. For comparison from last-gen, we can see that the C3 peaked at 815 nits, while the S95C achieved a massive 1,232 nits in HDR. A similar difference should be evident with 2024’s models.
If you want to match or even exceed the brightness of the S95D, you’ll have to instead consider the LG G4, as this model is fitted with MLA (Micro Lens Array) tech to boost brightness higher than ever on the OLED evo panel.
Should I buy the S95D or C4?
Picking between these two is a tough call, though we think that it mostly comes down to budget. It’s no secret that the S95D is the better performer, as we’d expect from the premium price. It would be our go-to option if money is no object, though it has some strong competition when we think about LG G4 vs Samsung S95D. If you have a more modest budget, go for the LG C4.
And while the anti-glare display on the S95D can be seen as a selling point, some people will disagree. Glossy panels like the C4 make colors pop, looking as natural as possible without any strong coating dulling them. The C4 is better value for money if you’re primarily using it in a dimly-lit room.

The LG C4 has a very responsive UI compared to its predecessor, and its support for Dolby Vision makes it a tempting choice for those who prefer HDR content. However, you should definitely get the Samsung S95D if you can afford it. The display quality is much better with wider viewing angles and a significantly brighter display.
