Recently, the Toyota Vellfire, built on Toyota’s TNGA platform (GA-K), received a notable 4-star rating from the Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP). Toyota Vellfire Crash Test

JNCAP evaluates vehicles based on three key parameters. Firstly, the Preventive Safety Performance assessment, which includes full-frontal collision and offset frontal collision tests. The Vellfire excelled in this category, securing an impressive 88.84 out of 89 points. Secondly, the collision safety performance evaluation, covering side and rear-end collision protection, where the Vellfire achieved a commendable score of 84.93 out of 100 points.

Finally, the assessment of pedestrian protection showcased varied outcomes for the Vellfire. While its performance in pedestrian head protection scored 2.46 out of 4 points, it achieved a perfect score of 4/4 in pedestrian leg protection. Additionally, the Vellfire’s passenger seat belt reminder system was evaluated, earning a score of 2.80 out of 3.6 points.

It’s noteworthy that JNCAP assesses vehicles exclusively available in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), whereas other programs like the Global NCAP (GNCAP) concentrate on emerging markets. Each New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) follows its unique protocols for conducting crash tests and assigning scores, resulting in divergent outcomes.

The Vellfire is powered by a robust combination of a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC engine, an electric motor, and a hybrid battery system. This setup delivers an impressive maximum power output of 190 bhp and a maximum torque of 240 Nm. In India, the new Vellfire starts at Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom).
