Shortly after the supposed leak of specs for the impending Canon EOS R1, specs for the company’s expected R5 Mark II have also emerged.
The website Canon Rumors recently reported that several rumored specifications for the R5 II were revealed by the YouTuber Jan Wegener and though a few of these have already been covered, others are new.
The full roster of supposed specs includes the following:
45mp Stacked Sensor (Faster readout than the EOS R3)
A preburst feature superior to that found in the EOS R6 Mark II.
Both Mechanical and Electronic Shutter
30fps (Mechanical)
Ergonomic design features from the Canon EOS R6 Mark II also being added to the R5 Mark II, particularly the video/stills toggle.
Incorporation of the Smart Controller from the EOS R3
New “flippy” screen mechanism for better viewing options.
Eye AF II will also be added to the EOS R5 Mark II.
Advancements in heat dissipation technology for enhanced performance in video recording and high-frame-rate photography.
Some of the more notable specs above are those for shooting speed and sensor size.
If the R5 Mark II really does include a 45MP Stacked sensor and a 30fps mechanical shooting speed, it would be one very robust camera, like its predecessor.
This would make it an ideal camera for pro users with professional needs who nonetheless don’t want to spend a fortune on their gear.
As for the official announcement date of the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, it’s a bit ambiguous but Canon will supposedly announce the camera after the Memorial Day/ Victoria Day holidays. These happen at the end of May.
It’s also possible that the upcoming camera will be announced in July and also ship in that same month, which is what earlier rumors have suggested.
In any case, it’s been a busy first half of 2024 for Canon. Many rumors have swirled around the prolific company’s upcoming product releases and Canon has indeed revealed some surprises.
